scented
Having a pleasant smell that was added on purpose.
Scented means having a smell that has been added on purpose, usually a pleasant one. When you walk past a scented candle in a store, you might notice it smells like vanilla, pine trees, or fresh lemons. Scented soaps, lotions, and cleaning products all have fragrances mixed in to make them smell nice.
The word comes from scent, which means smell or fragrance. Something scented doesn't just happen to have an odor: someone deliberately added that smell. A flower has a natural scent, but a scented marker was manufactured to smell like grapes or cinnamon.
You'll often see the word combined with what the smell is like: lavender-scented detergent, rose-scented perfume, or pine-scented air freshener. Some people prefer unscented products, which means manufacturers have left out the added fragrances. That's especially helpful for people whose skin is sensitive to certain chemicals, or who simply don't want their soap to smell like tropical coconuts before school in the morning.
