senseless
Having no good reason, purpose, or meaning.
Senseless means lacking sense, reason, or purpose. When something is senseless, it makes no logical sense or serves no good purpose whatsoever. A senseless argument between friends might erupt over nothing important, leaving everyone frustrated and wondering why they even fought. A senseless act of vandalism destroys property without any real motive or gain.
The word often carries a tone of waste or tragedy. When violence happens for no clear reason, people call it senseless violence because it accomplished nothing except harm. A senseless rule at school might forbid something harmless, leaving students scratching their heads about the point of it.
Senseless can also mean unconscious or unable to think clearly, as when a character in a story is knocked senseless. In this case, the person has literally lost their senses temporarily and can't think or respond normally.
The word suggests frustration or sadness because senseless things achieve nothing worthwhile. They're actions or events that reason itself cannot explain or justify.
