shortcoming
A flaw or weakness where someone or something is not strong.
A shortcoming is a flaw, weakness, or area where someone or something falls short of what's needed or expected. Everyone has shortcomings: maybe you're great at math but struggle with spelling, or perhaps you're a talented artist who has trouble finishing projects on time.
The word doesn't mean you're a failure. It simply names the specific ways we're not perfect. A soccer player's shortcoming might be weak defense even though their offense is strong. A computer program's shortcoming might be that it runs slowly, even if it does everything else well.
Recognizing shortcomings is useful. When you know your shortcomings, you can work on them or find ways to work around them. A student who knows that disorganization is their shortcoming might use a planner to keep track of assignments. A basketball team might recognize that their shortcoming is rebounding, so they practice it more.
