showerhead
The bathroom fixture that sprays water for taking a shower.
A showerhead is the fixture at the end of a shower pipe that sprays water in many small streams instead of one big gush. Without a showerhead, water would just pour out of the pipe in a single heavy stream, like water from a garden hose, which would be uncomfortable and wasteful.
Inside a showerhead, the water passes through dozens of tiny holes that break it into fine sprays. Some showerheads let you adjust the spray pattern: a gentle mist for relaxing, a strong pulse for rinsing shampoo, or something in between. Modern showerheads often include features to save water while still feeling powerful.
The design matters more than you might think. A good showerhead distributes water evenly across your body, making showering efficient and pleasant. A poorly designed one might spray unevenly or dribble weakly. Engineers constantly work on improving showerhead designs to balance water pressure, coverage, and conservation. If you twist a showerhead off its pipe to clean the mineral deposits that build up over time, you can see the clever arrangement of holes that turns ordinary water pressure into a comfortable shower.
