sixth
Number six in order, or one of six equal parts.
Sixth means number six in a sequence or order. When you finish sixth in a race, five people crossed the line before you. If you're the sixth person to raise your hand in class, you'll have to wait for five classmates to share their answers first.
The word also describes one of six equal parts of something. When you save one sixth of your allowance each week, you're setting aside about 17 cents from every dollar. If you split a pizza into six slices, each slice is one sixth of the pizza. If you eat five of those slices, you've eaten five-sixths of the pizza. (“Sixths” can be hard to pronounce.)
You might also hear someone talk about a sixth sense, meaning an intuitive feeling beyond the five physical senses. When your friend seems upset even though they say they're fine, and somehow you just know something's wrong, people might say you used your sixth sense to pick up on their feelings.
