snowsuit
A warm, waterproof outfit for staying dry and cozy in snow.
A snowsuit is a warm, weatherproof outfit designed to keep you protected when you're playing or working outside in cold, snowy weather. Think of it as armor against winter: a snowsuit typically covers you from neck to ankles in one thick, insulated piece (or sometimes a matching jacket and pants), keeping out the cold, wind, and wet snow.
When you're building a snow fort or sledding down a hill, a snowsuit lets you stay outside for hours without getting cold or soaked. The thick padding traps your body heat inside, while the waterproof outer layer keeps melting snow from seeping through to your clothes. Most snowsuits have elastic at the wrists and ankles to seal out snow, and a hood to protect your head and neck.
Very young children often wear snowsuits because they're easy to put on (just one zipper instead of coordinating separate pieces) and they don't ride up during play. Adults who work outdoors in extreme cold, like Arctic researchers or ski lift operators, also wear snowsuits to stay warm during long hours in harsh conditions.
