specialist
A person who is an expert in one specific subject.
A specialist is someone who focuses deeply on one specific area of knowledge or skill, becoming exceptionally good at that particular thing. While a general doctor treats all kinds of illnesses, a heart specialist (called a cardiologist) studies hearts for years and becomes an expert at diagnosing and treating heart problems. A soccer player might be a penalty kick specialist, practicing that one skill until they can score almost every time.
Specialists choose to know one subject extraordinarily well rather than knowing a little about many subjects. A wildlife biologist might specialize in studying only butterflies, learning everything about their behavior, migration patterns, and what they need to survive. An engineer might specialize in designing bridges rather than all types of buildings.
In school, you're more of a generalist, learning math, reading, science, and history all together. But as people grow older, many become specialists. A lawyer might specialize in environmental law. A chef might specialize in pastries. The trade-off is clear: specialists know their subject better than almost anyone, but they might know less about other areas. When you need expertise in something specific and important, you want a specialist.
