spent
Used up and out of energy or power.
Spent means used up or exhausted, with nothing left to give.
When a battery is spent, it has no power remaining. When you've spent all your allowance, your money is gone. After running three miles in gym class, you might feel completely spent, with your energy drained and your legs like rubber.
You spend money at the store, spend time doing homework, or spend energy playing soccer. Once something is spent, that resource is depleted.
People also talk about spent fuel in power plants, spent ammunition after a battle, or a spent volcano that has stopped erupting. In each case, whatever power or potential the thing once had is now used up.
You might hear someone say they're spent after a long day of yard work, or that a storm has spent its fury after hours of wind and rain finally calm down. The word captures that feeling of being completely empty, like a juice box you've drained to the last drop. When something is spent, it has given everything it had to give.
