spontaneously
In a sudden, natural way, without planning or being forced.
Spontaneously means happening naturally, without planning or external cause. When something occurs spontaneously, it arises on its own, driven by internal impulse rather than careful thought or outside pressure.
If you spontaneously decide to build a fort in your backyard, you didn't wake up planning it: the idea just popped into your head and you acted on it immediately. When friends spontaneously burst into laughter at the lunch table, no one decided in advance to laugh; the humor struck everyone at once and laughter erupted naturally.
The word carries a sense of freedom and authenticity. A spontaneous person acts on genuine feelings and impulses rather than always following a script. A spontaneous round of applause happens when an audience is so moved that they start clapping without anyone leading the way.
Scientists use spontaneously to describe processes that happen by themselves without outside intervention. A chemical reaction might occur spontaneously when two substances mix, or plants might grow spontaneously in an abandoned lot without anyone planting seeds.
The opposite would be something carefully planned, forced, or artificial. A surprise party requires planning, but the joy on someone's face when they walk through the door? That happens spontaneously.
