stadium
A large building with many seats for watching sports or events.
A stadium is a large, often open-air building designed for sports events and other big gatherings. Stadiums have rows and rows of seats arranged so that thousands of people can watch what's happening on the field or stage below. The seats typically rise up in tiers, like giant staircases, so even people sitting far back can see over the heads of those in front of them.
Modern stadiums can hold anywhere from 10,000 to over 100,000 spectators. They host football games, soccer matches, baseball games, concerts, and special events. Famous stadiums like Wembley in London or Yankee Stadium in New York become landmarks that entire cities take pride in. Some stadiums have roofs that can open and close depending on the weather, while others remain open to the sky.
The atmosphere inside a packed stadium during an important game can feel electric: thousands of voices cheering together, the roar of the crowd when something exciting happens, and the feeling that you're part of something much bigger than yourself.
