stimulation
Something that makes your mind or body more active.
Stimulation is anything that activates your senses, mind, or body and makes them more alert or active. When you hear an exciting story, see bright colors, smell fresh cookies, or feel cold water on your skin, you're experiencing stimulation. Your brain and body respond by paying attention and becoming more energized.
Different people need different amounts of stimulation. Some kids concentrate best in a quiet library with minimal distractions, while others think better with background music playing. Athletes use physical stimulation like stretching and warm-up exercises to prepare their bodies for competition. Scientists talk about mental stimulation when they mean activities that challenge your brain, like puzzles, reading challenging books, or learning new skills.
Too little stimulation can make people bored and sleepy. Too much stimulation can feel overwhelming, like when a room is too noisy and bright to think clearly. Finding the right amount of stimulation helps you stay focused and engaged. Teachers provide stimulation by using different activities, asking questions, and making lessons interactive rather than lecturing for an hour straight.
