stockroom
A room where extra supplies or products are stored.
A stockroom is a room where supplies, products, or materials are kept until they're needed. In a store, the stockroom is typically in the back, filled with extra merchandise that hasn't been put on the shelves yet. When a customer asks for a different size or color, an employee might say “Let me check the stockroom” and disappear through a door marked “Employees Only.”
Schools have stockrooms too, storing extra textbooks, art supplies, science equipment, and classroom materials. A teacher running low on pencils or construction paper will visit the school's stockroom to restock. Restaurants keep their stockrooms filled with ingredients, paper products, and cleaning supplies.
Everything is organized so workers can quickly find what they need: boxes are labeled, items are grouped by category, and popular products are kept within easy reach. A well-organized stockroom makes a business run smoothly, while a messy one wastes everyone's time as workers hunt for what they need.
