strength
The quality of being powerful in body, mind, or force.
Strength is the quality of being physically powerful or mentally tough. A weightlifter demonstrates strength by hoisting a barbell overhead. A distance runner shows strength by pushing through fatigue in the final mile. Your muscles gain strength through regular exercise and challenging workouts.
Strength extends beyond the physical. Mental strength means staying determined when things get difficult. A student shows strength by continuing to work on challenging math problems even after getting several wrong. A friend shows strength by standing up for someone being teased, even when it's uncomfortable. Scientists and inventors demonstrate strength by persisting through failed experiments until they find solutions.
Strength can also mean the power or intensity of something. A bridge's strength determines how much weight it can hold. The strength of a storm is measured by its wind speed and destructive power. A strong argument has convincing evidence, while a strong friendship weathers disagreements and distance.
People sometimes confuse strength with never showing vulnerability or emotion, but real strength includes knowing when to ask for help, when to admit mistakes, and when to keep going despite setbacks. The strongest people aren't those who never struggle; they're the ones who face their struggles directly and keep moving forward.
