sunroom
A bright room with many windows for enjoying sunlight indoors.
A sunroom is a room with large windows or glass walls designed to let in lots of natural light and warmth from the sun. Picture a cozy space attached to a house where you can sit and read on a winter afternoon, surrounded by windows on three sides, feeling the sun's warmth even when it's cold outside.
Sunrooms go by different names depending on their design. A solarium typically has glass walls and even a glass ceiling. A conservatory often includes plants and greenery, taking advantage of all that sunlight. Some people call them Florida rooms or Arizona rooms in warmer parts of the country.
People use sunrooms for all sorts of activities: reading, playing games, growing plants, or just relaxing in the sunshine without dealing with bugs or bad weather. They're especially popular in places with cold winters, where sitting in a sunroom lets you enjoy the sun's light and warmth without going outside. Many sunrooms aren't heated or cooled like regular rooms, so they might be too hot in summer or too chilly in winter. During spring and fall, though, they're often the best spot in the house.
