supporter
A person who helps, encourages, or stands behind someone or something.
A supporter is someone who actively helps, encourages, or stands behind a person, team, cause, or idea. When you're a supporter of your school's soccer team, you cheer for them at games and celebrate their victories. When your parents are supporters of your piano practice, they encourage you to keep going even when a piece feels difficult.
Supporters show up, speak up, and take action. A supporter of a local library might volunteer there or donate books. A supporter of a friend running for class president might help make posters or encourage other students to vote for them. During the American Revolution, supporters of independence risked their safety and property to help create a new nation.
The word carries a sense of loyalty and commitment. Fair-weather fans might abandon a team after a few losses, but true supporters stick around through wins and defeats. You might support many things in life: your favorite author by buying their books, a charitable cause by raising money, or a family member by believing in their dreams. Being a supporter means you're willing to invest your time, energy, or resources into something you believe deserves to succeed.
