A technician is someone skilled at working with specialized equipment, tools, or technical procedures. While engineers and scientists often design systems and discover new knowledge, technicians are the experts who operate, maintain, and repair the machinery and technology that keeps our world running.

A lab technician might prepare samples for experiments and operate microscopes and other scientific instruments. An automotive technician (sometimes called a mechanic) diagnoses problems with cars and fixes them using specialized tools and knowledge. A computer technician repairs broken laptops and installs software. A surgical technician assists doctors during operations by preparing instruments and monitoring equipment.
