therapy
Professional help to deal with feelings, problems, or challenges.
Therapy is professional help that people get to work through emotional difficulties, mental health challenges, or problems in their lives. A therapist is someone specially trained to listen carefully and help people understand their feelings, change unhelpful patterns of thinking, or develop better ways of handling tough situations.
Someone might go to therapy after experiencing something traumatic, like the death of a family member or a serious accident. Others seek therapy to manage anxiety, depression, or overwhelming stress. Some people work with therapists to improve relationships or break habits that aren't serving them well. Physical therapy helps people recover from injuries and regain strength and movement.
Therapy usually involves regular meetings where a person talks openly about what's bothering them in a safe, confidential setting. The therapist asks questions, offers new perspectives, and teaches specific techniques for managing difficult emotions or situations. It's not about being “crazy” or “broken.” Many successful people see therapists to work through challenges, just like athletes work with coaches to improve their performance.
Different types of therapy exist for different needs: speech therapy helps people who struggle with communication, occupational therapy helps people relearn daily skills after illness or injury, and family therapy helps families work through conflicts together.
