thoughtfully
In a careful, considerate way that shows you have thought.
Thoughtfully means doing something with careful consideration and attention. When you respond thoughtfully to a question, you take time to think before you answer instead of blurting out the first thing that comes to mind. When you act thoughtfully toward others, you consider their feelings and needs as well as your own.
The word captures two related ideas. First, it means using your mind carefully: reading a book thoughtfully, solving a problem thoughtfully, or planning something thoughtfully. Second, it means showing consideration for others: choosing a gift thoughtfully, listening thoughtfully to a friend's worries, or speaking thoughtfully so your words don't accidentally hurt someone.
A thoughtful person combines both meanings. They think things through carefully and consider how their actions affect others. If your sister is having a bad day and you thoughtfully offer to help with her chores, you've noticed her situation and responded with kindness. If you thoughtfully arrange your books by topic instead of just throwing them on a shelf, you've used your mind to create a useful system.
The opposite would be acting thoughtlessly: carelessly, without thinking, or without considering others. When you do something thoughtfully, you're showing that you care enough to pay attention and think things through.
