ticket
A pass that lets you enter an event or place.
A ticket is a piece of paper or digital pass that gives you permission to enter somewhere or do something. When you go to a movie theater, you buy a ticket that shows you've paid for a seat. Concert tickets let you into the show, and plane tickets prove you have a seat on a flight. Museums, zoos, and sports stadiums all use tickets to keep track of who's allowed inside.
Tickets can also be proof of rule-breaking. If a driver parks illegally, they might get a parking ticket that requires them to pay a fine. Police officers write speeding tickets when drivers go too fast.
In everyday conversation, you might hear people say something is “just the ticket,” meaning it's exactly what's needed. If you're cold and someone offers you hot chocolate, you might say “that's just the ticket!”
