Touchable means able to be touched or felt with your hands. A rock is touchable, a cloud floating in the sky is not. When something is within reach and you can physically make contact with it, it's touchable.

The word often describes things that seem like they might be untouchable but actually aren't. A museum might have a touchable exhibit where kids can handle real fossils or replicas of artifacts, unlike most museum displays where you can only look. A teacher might bring touchable models of planets to class so students can feel their different sizes, making the solar system more real than pictures in a book could.

Sometimes people use touchable to describe someone who seems approachable and friendly rather than distant or intimidating. A famous author who chats with readers at a book signing might be described as surprisingly touchable, meaning they're warm and easy to talk to, not cold or standoffish.

The opposite is untouchable: things that are out of reach, off-limits, or too delicate to handle. In a science lab, certain chemicals might be untouchable without special gloves. When you move from looking at something behind glass to holding it in your hands, you're experiencing the difference between untouchable and touchable.
