treasurer
A person who manages and keeps track of money.
A treasurer is the person responsible for managing an organization's money. The treasurer keeps track of how much money comes in, how much goes out, and how much remains. In a club at school, the treasurer might collect membership dues, pay for supplies, and report to everyone how much money the club has left to spend.
The job requires careful record-keeping and honesty. A good treasurer organizes receipts, maintains accurate records in a ledger or computer spreadsheet, and can explain exactly where every dollar went. Student council treasurers might manage funds for dances and field trips. A family treasurer handles the household budget, paying bills and tracking expenses.
Governments have treasurers too. The United States Secretary of the Treasury oversees the nation's finances, while the Treasurer of the United States supervises the production of currency and signs every dollar bill printed.
