trend
A pattern showing how something is changing over time.
A trend is a general direction in which something is moving or changing over time. When clothing stores notice that more people are buying a particular style of sneaker, that's a trend. When scientists observe that average temperatures have been rising for decades, that's a trend. Trends show patterns of where things are heading based on what's happening over time.
You can spot trends everywhere. In your school, there might be a trend toward more students joining the robotics club. In reading habits, there might be a trend away from mysteries and toward science fiction. Some trends last for years, while others fade quickly (remember when everyone had fidget spinners?).
People who are good at noticing trends early often have an advantage: a business owner who spots a trend can stock the right products, and a student who notices a trend in their math mistakes can fix them before the next test.
Fashion trends come and go, but understanding trends in general, whether in data, behavior, or ideas, is a valuable skill that helps you see the bigger picture and make smarter decisions.
