trucker
A person who drives big trucks to deliver goods.
A trucker is someone who drives a large truck, called a semi-truck or tractor-trailer, to transport goods long distances across the country. These massive vehicles can haul everything from food to furniture, electronics to building materials. While you might drive to your grandparents' house a few hours away, truckers regularly drive hundreds of miles in a single day, often crossing multiple states to deliver their cargo.
Trucking is essential to modern life. Almost everything in stores, from cereal to sneakers, traveled on a truck at some point. Truckers spend days or weeks on the road, sleeping in small bunks behind their truck's cab at rest stops. They use CB radios to talk with other truckers about traffic, weather, and road conditions. Many truckers know the highways and back roads of America better than anyone else.
The job requires skill and responsibility, including maneuvering a vehicle the length of several cars, staying alert for long hours, and delivering cargo safely and on time. Good truckers take pride in their driving abilities and in keeping America's economy moving, one delivery at a time.
