Tyrannical describes a ruler or person who uses power in a cruel, unfair, and controlling way, caring nothing for others' rights or feelings. A tyrannical leader might throw people in prison for disagreeing, or make harsh laws that serve only himself. The American colonists called King George III tyrannical because he taxed them heavily without letting them have any say in their own government.

You can also use tyrannical to describe anyone who bosses others around unreasonably. A tyrannical older sibling might demand that everyone in the family follow ridiculous rules he made up. A tyrannical coach might humiliate players and refuse to listen to anyone's input. When you hear tyrannical, think of power without limits, compassion, or accountability: someone who rules through fear rather than respect, taking everything and giving nothing back.
