unappealing
Not attractive or interesting; not something you want.
Unappealing means not attractive, interesting, or desirable. Something unappealing fails to draw you in or make you want it. A plate of cold, mushy vegetables might look unappealing compared to fresh, crispy ones. A book with a boring cover and confusing title might seem unappealing on the shelf, even if the story inside turns out to be good.
The word works for almost anything you might encounter: an unappealing idea for a field trip, an unappealing color scheme for a bedroom, or an unappealing smell wafting from the cafeteria. When something is unappealing, your instinct is to turn away from it rather than move toward it.
Notice that unappealing describes your reaction to something, not necessarily its true quality. What's unappealing to you might be appealing to someone else. You might find the idea of running five miles completely unappealing while your friend thinks it sounds fun.
The opposite of unappealing is appealing: attractive, inviting, or tempting in some way.
