unbridled
Completely wild and not held back or controlled.
Unbridled means completely uncontrolled or unrestricted, like a horse without a bridle. A bridle is the leather harness that goes over a horse's head and helps a rider guide and control the animal. Without it, a horse can run wherever it wants at full speed.
When we describe something as unbridled, we mean it has that same wild, unrestrained quality. Unbridled enthusiasm means excitement so strong that nothing holds it back. A scientist might approach a new discovery with unbridled curiosity, asking every question that pops into her head without worrying whether they sound silly. An artist might paint with unbridled creativity, trying bold new techniques without fear of making mistakes.
The word often describes emotions or qualities that flow freely without limits: unbridled joy, unbridled anger, unbridled ambition. Sometimes this freedom is wonderful, like the unbridled laughter of kids playing at recess. Other times it can be destructive, like unbridled greed that makes someone hurt others to get what they want.
Notice that unbridled doesn't just mean “strong.” It specifically suggests that nothing is holding back or controlling that force. A runner might have strong determination, but unbridled determination would mean pursuing a goal with such intensity that nothing could slow them down or make them reconsider it.
