unfiltered
Not cleaned up or softened; kept in its original form.
Unfiltered means not held back, edited, or softened. When something is unfiltered, it comes through completely raw and unchanged, without anything removed or toned down.
Unfiltered apple juice contains all the pulp and bits, while filtered juice is crystal clear. Unfiltered water might contain sediment, while filtered water has had impurities removed.
More commonly, we use unfiltered to describe communication. When someone shares unfiltered thoughts, they say exactly what they're thinking without stopping to soften it or consider how it sounds. Your friend might give you unfiltered feedback on your story, pointing out every problem honestly instead of just being polite. A comedian known for unfiltered humor says shocking or blunt things without worrying much about whether it might offend someone.
Unfiltered can be positive or negative depending on the situation. Sometimes unfiltered honesty helps: you want your dentist's unfiltered opinion about your cavity, not reassuring lies. But unfiltered comments can also be hurtful or inappropriate. There's a difference between being honest and being carelessly blunt. People learn when to filter their thoughts and when to speak more freely as they grow up and experience different social situations.
