unfriendly
Not kind, warm, or welcoming toward others.
Unfriendly means not warm, welcoming, or kind in the way you treat others. An unfriendly person might ignore you when you say hello, respond with short or cold answers, or show through their face and body language that they don't want to interact with you.
Sometimes people act unfriendly without meaning to hurt anyone. Someone might seem unfriendly because they're shy, tired, worried about something else, or just having a bad day. But other times, people are deliberately unfriendly because they're angry, don't like someone, or want to keep their distance.
Places and things can be unfriendly too. An unfriendly neighborhood might be one where people don't acknowledge each other or help out. A website with an unfriendly design is confusing and hard to use. Even weather can be unfriendly: unfriendly skies can mean stormy conditions that make flying difficult.
The opposite of unfriendly is friendly, which describes people who are warm, open, and make others feel comfortable.
