A one-wheeled bike you ride by balancing and pedaling.
A unicycle is a one-wheeled vehicle that you ride by sitting on a seat mounted directly above the wheel and pedaling to keep your balance. Unlike a bicycle, which has two wheels and stays upright on its own, a unicycle requires constant balance from the rider, making it much trickier to master.
Learning to ride a unicycle takes serious practice and persistence. Most beginners need to hold onto a wall or railing while they figure out how to balance forward and backward at the same time. The rider steers by leaning slightly and twisting their hips, and stopping requires pedaling backward or simply hopping off.
People ride unicycles for fun, exercise, or performance. You might see a unicyclist in a circus act juggling while riding, or performing tricks like hopping up stairs or riding backward. Some people even play unicycle hockey or go on long-distance rides.
While a unicycle looks impossible at first, riders say that once your body learns the balance, it becomes natural, like riding a bike but requiring even more focus and core strength.
