uniformed
Wearing a special outfit that shows belonging to a group.
To be uniformed means to be wearing a uniform, which is a special set of clothing that identifies someone as part of a particular group or organization. Police officers, firefighters, soldiers, nurses, and many students wear uniforms. When you see a uniformed officer directing traffic, the uniform immediately tells you they have authority and can help if you need it.
Uniforms serve several purposes. They show who belongs to an organization and can indicate rank or role. A ship's captain wears a different uniform than a new sailor. They also create equality within a group: when everyone on a soccer team wears the same uniform, individual differences fade and the focus shifts to working together.
The word uniformed specifically describes someone currently wearing their uniform. A police detective working undercover isn't uniformed, even though they're still a police officer. When schools require uniforms, they want students to arrive uniformed each morning.
Don't confuse uniformed with uninformed, which means lacking knowledge or information about something. A uniformed guard may know their job well, but an uninformed guard might not know what's happening at their post.
