unincorporated
Not officially part of any city or town government area.
Unincorporated describes an area that isn't officially part of any city or town. When you live in an unincorporated area, you're in a region that has no local city government of its own. Instead, the county government provides services like roads, police, and fire protection.
Think of it this way: most people live inside the boundaries of a city or town that has its own mayor, city council, and local laws. But between these cities, there are often stretches of land, houses, farms, or small communities that sit outside any city limits. These are unincorporated areas.
Living in an unincorporated area has trade-offs. You might have more freedom about things like keeping chickens or building a fence, since there are fewer local regulations. But you might also have fewer services nearby, like parks or libraries. Your mailing address might list the name of the nearest city, even though you don't technically live in that city.
