unstoppable
Impossible to stop because it keeps going with great power.
Unstoppable means impossible to stop or prevent, moving forward with such force or determination that nothing can get in the way. An unstoppable freight train barrels down the tracks with tremendous momentum. An unstoppable soccer team keeps winning game after game, no matter how tough their opponents are.
The word captures two different kinds of power. Sometimes something is unstoppable because of pure physical force, like a massive boulder rolling down a mountain, smashing everything in its path. Other times, something is unstoppable because of determination and persistence. When a dedicated student is unstoppable in pursuing a goal, they keep working through every setback and obstacle. They fail a test and study harder. They lose a competition and practice more. They hear “no” and find another way.
People often use unstoppable to describe athletes, teams, or people on a winning streak who seem to have found their perfect rhythm. An unstoppable basketball player might score again and again because they've figured out how to beat any defense. Scientists doing unstoppable research keep making breakthroughs because each discovery leads to the next.
The word suggests both strength and momentum: the idea that once something gets going, it builds its own energy and becomes harder and harder to slow down.
