unsung
Not properly praised or recognized for important work or help.
Unsung describes someone or something that deserves recognition or praise but hasn't received it. When heroes go unsung, their contributions are overlooked or forgotten, even though they did something valuable or important.
Think about a school play: while the lead actors get applause and attention, the students who built the sets, ran the lights, and sewed the costumes often go unsung. They worked just as hard, but fewer people notice their contributions. Or consider a winning sports team: the star players make headlines, but the unsung players who practiced just as hard and made crucial plays can get overlooked.
The word often appears in the phrase unsung hero, meaning someone who does important work without getting credit. A teacher who stays late to help struggling students, a scientist whose research helps others win awards, or a soldier whose bravery goes unrecorded might all be unsung heroes.
