usable
Able to be used well enough to do its job.
Usable means able to be used or suitable for use. Something is usable when it works well enough to accomplish what you need it to do.
A broken pencil with no point isn't usable for writing until you sharpen it. A wobbly chair might still be technically usable, but it's not very comfortable or safe. When software designers create apps, they focus on making them usable, meaning people can figure out how to use them without getting frustrated or confused.
The word often appears when we're evaluating whether something is practical or functional. Your old bicycle might still be usable even though it's scratched and faded, as long as the wheels turn and the brakes work. A recipe written in clear steps is more usable than one with confusing instructions.
Usability is the noun form, describing how easy and effective something is to use. Good usability means something works smoothly and makes sense to the person using it. A playground with excellent usability has equipment that's the right size for kids, with clear pathways and safe surfaces.
Notice that usable is different from perfect. Something doesn't need to be fancy or brand new to be usable. It just needs to do its job well enough to be helpful.
