A vee is the name of the letter V, and things shaped like a V are often called vee-shaped or described as forming a vee. When geese fly south for the winter, they arrange themselves in a distinctive vee formation, with one bird at the front and the others angled back on either side. This shape helps them save energy: the birds behind the leader can fly in the updraft created by the bird in front.
