view
What you can see from a place, especially a scene.
View means what you can see from a particular place, or the act of looking at something. From the top of a mountain, you might have a spectacular view of valleys and distant peaks stretching for miles. A house with an ocean view lets you see the water from its windows. When you view a painting in a museum, you're looking at it carefully to appreciate the details.
The word also means an opinion or way of thinking about something. Your view on whether homework helps learning might differ from your teacher's view. When you express your views, you're sharing what you believe or think. Someone might have strong views about the best way to train a dog, or traditional views about table manners.
View can also mean to consider or regard something in a particular way. A coach might view a loss as a learning opportunity rather than a failure. You might view a challenging math problem as exciting rather than frustrating.
In modern usage, view often refers to watching something, especially online. When you view a video, you watch it. Creators track how many views their videos receive, meaning how many times people have watched them. This usage connects back to the original meaning: you're directing your sight toward something to observe it.
