walk
To move forward on foot at a normal pace.
To walk means to move forward by putting one foot in front of the other at a steady, moderate pace. Walking is slower than running but faster than crawling. When you walk to school, you're moving on your feet without rushing or jogging.
People walk for many reasons: to get somewhere, to exercise, to think, or just to enjoy being outside. A long, relaxing walk through a park can help clear your mind. Your dog probably loves going for walks around the neighborhood.
The word also describes taking someone or something somewhere on foot. You might walk your little sister to her classroom, or walk a friend home after school.
Walk has other meanings too. In baseball, a walk happens when the pitcher throws four balls outside the strike zone, and the batter gets to go to first base without hitting. Sometimes people use walk to mean leaving: “If you don't like the movie, you can just walk out.” When someone says a project or test was “a walk in the park,” they mean it was easy. And when you walk away from a situation, you're choosing not to participate or get involved anymore.
