Weariness is the heavy, tired feeling that settles over you after prolonged effort, stress, or strain. It's a deep exhaustion that affects both your body and mind, draining you of energy and motivation.
You might feel weariness after spending hours working on a difficult school project, where every problem seems harder than the last. Athletes experience weariness in the final miles of a long race, when their muscles ache and each step requires extra determination. A teacher might feel weariness at the end of a challenging week, not just physically tired but mentally drained from focusing so intensely.
Weariness shows in how people move and speak: slowly, carefully, without their usual energy. Someone experiencing weariness might sink into a chair with relief or speak in a flat, quiet voice.
You can also feel weary of something, meaning you're tired of dealing with it. A student might grow weary of studying the same subject night after night, or someone might become weary of hearing the same excuse repeatedly. In this sense, weariness isn't just physical: it's the exhaustion that comes from too much of anything, even things that aren't physically demanding.
