weatherman
A person who predicts and reports what the weather will be.
A weatherman is a person who studies weather patterns and forecasts what the weather will be like in the coming hours or days. You've probably seen a weatherman on TV standing in front of a map covered with symbols for sunshine, clouds, and rain, explaining whether you'll need an umbrella tomorrow or if it'll be a perfect day for the beach.
The word traditionally referred to men who did this work, but today people of all genders forecast the weather. Many people now use the term meteorologist for someone with scientific training in atmospheric science, or simply weather forecaster or weathercaster for anyone who reports the weather. Despite advances in technology, predicting weather remains challenging because the atmosphere is incredibly complex, with thousands of factors affecting whether it will rain or shine.
Weathercasters use sophisticated tools like radar, satellites, and computer models to track storms, measure temperature and air pressure, and predict where weather systems will move. While they can't control the weather, their forecasts help people plan their days, prepare for dangerous storms, and stay safe. When a weatherman predicts a major snowstorm or hurricane, communities can prepare by stocking supplies, closing schools, or evacuating if necessary.
