weightlessly
In a way that seems to float with no weight.
Weightlessly means moving or floating without feeling the pull of gravity, as if you have no weight at all. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station float weightlessly through their spacecraft, drifting from wall to wall like they're swimming through air. They're still being pulled by Earth's gravity, but because they're constantly falling around the planet at the same rate as their spacecraft, they feel no weight.
You experience a tiny taste of weightlessness when you jump on a trampoline. At the highest point of your bounce, for just a split second before gravity pulls you back down, you feel almost weightless. Skydivers feel it too during freefall, before air resistance slows them down.
The word can also describe graceful, effortless movement. A skilled ballet dancer might leap weightlessly across the stage, making difficult jumps look easy and light. A feather drifts weightlessly on the breeze. When something moves weightlessly in this sense, it seems to defy gravity through beauty and grace rather than actually escaping it.
