well-being
Being healthy, happy, and comfortable in your life overall.
Well-being is the state of being healthy, comfortable, and happy in your life. It describes how you're doing overall in body, mind, and spirit together.
Your well-being includes your physical health: whether you're getting enough sleep, eating nutritious food, and staying active. But it also includes your emotional health: feeling secure, having good friendships, and being able to handle stress when it comes. A student might have good grades but poor well-being if they're constantly exhausted and anxious. Another student might struggle in math but have strong well-being because they feel supported, get plenty of exercise, and enjoy their friendships.
Parents, teachers, and doctors care about children's well-being because it affects everything else. When your well-being is strong, you learn better, play harder, and bounce back from disappointments more easily. When it's weak, even small problems can feel overwhelming.
The word often appears in phrases like physical well-being or emotional well-being when someone wants to focus on one specific aspect. But true well-being means all these pieces working together, like instruments in an orchestra creating something greater than any single part.
