wishy-washy
Not able to decide or stick to one choice.
When you call someone wishy-washy, you mean they can't make up their mind or stick to a decision. A wishy-washy person wavers back and forth, saying one thing today and something different tomorrow, never quite committing to anything.
Imagine a friend who agrees to play soccer at recess, then changes their mind and suggests basketball instead, then wonders if four square might be better, then thinks maybe they should just read instead. That's wishy-washy behavior. Or picture a group trying to choose a class project: a wishy-washy member keeps changing their vote depending on who spoke last, never taking a clear position.
The word has a weak, watery sound that matches its meaning. Something wishy-washy lacks firmness and strength. A wishy-washy argument doesn't take a clear stand. A wishy-washy promise isn't reliable because you can't count on the person to follow through.
