yoga
A kind of exercise that uses poses, breathing, and calm focus.
Yoga is an ancient practice that combines physical poses, breathing exercises, and meditation to strengthen both body and mind. When someone does yoga, they might hold their body in various positions (like balancing on one leg or stretching into a triangle shape) while focusing on breathing slowly and staying calm.
Yoga originated in India thousands of years ago as a spiritual practice, but today people around the world use it for many reasons: to build strength and flexibility, to reduce stress, or simply to feel more peaceful and focused. A yoga class might start with gentle stretches, move through more challenging poses, and end with everyone lying quietly on their mats.
You might notice that after doing yoga, you feel both physically tired and mentally refreshed at the same time. Some people practice yoga every day, while others take a class once a week or use yoga poses to cool down after playing sports.
