zookeeper
A person whose job is to care for zoo animals.
A zookeeper is a person whose job is to care for animals living in a zoo. Zookeepers feed the animals, clean their habitats, watch for signs of illness, and make sure each creature has what it needs to stay healthy and active. A zookeeper might prepare special meals for a picky gorilla, design puzzles to keep clever otters entertained, or train a sea lion to cooperate during medical checkups.
The work requires deep knowledge of animal behavior and needs. Different species need different foods, temperatures, and amounts of space. A zookeeper working with reptiles needs to understand how snakes regulate their body temperature, while one caring for elephants must know how these intelligent giants communicate and form bonds with each other.
Modern zookeepers not only feed animals but also create enrichment activities (challenges and games that keep animals mentally stimulated), participate in breeding programs to help endangered species survive, and teach visitors about wildlife conservation. Being a zookeeper means combining the skills of a scientist, a teacher, and a caretaker, all while working with some of the most fascinating creatures on Earth.
